Neomobile acquires mobile payments startup Onebip

Mobile media company Neomobile has acquired Onebip, a company that provides mobile payment solutions to online game publishers, social networks and ecommerce companies.

The Italian group says the acquisition of Onebip will enhance its offering to international merchants, particularly coupled with its strong mobile carrier relationships throughout Europe and Latin America.

Financial details on the transaction were not disclosed but we’ve learned Onebip’s co-founders, Diego Mortillaro and Marko Maras, will remain on board.

Onebip was founded in 2005 and boasts offices in Italy, UK and Serbia. The company says 2 million consumers has signed up for its mobile payment solution to date, enabling them to make payments on the Web (for online games, virtual goods and whatnot) through carrier billing as an alternative to the credit card or other payment options.

Neomobile, active since 2004, develops and distributes interactive digital content and services for mobile users in collaboration with carriers around the world. The group is headquartered in Rome and has offices throughout Europe, in Latin America and India.

The company’s getting increasingly acquisitive of late: about half a year ago, Neomobile boughtZero9, which specializes in online dating and community services.

The main shareholders of the group are BlueGem and MPS Venture, along with Neomobile’s management team.

The group says retail revenue surpassed 100 million euros last year, with net revenue of 61 million euros. In 2010, its m-commerce business alone logged a revenue increase of 500 percent compared to 2009, the company says.

As part of Neomobile, Onebip will continue offering mobile payment services and providing partners, which include companies like Playfish, Netlog, Kijiji, Stardoll and Gameforge, with additional benefits in geographical reach and commercial terms.
